Antarctica - Coldest, driest and highest continent on the planet

Antarctica - Coldest, driest and highest continent on the planet

Giventhe difficulty of this Mostpoint we consider valid if you set foot anywhere on the Antarctic ice cap, excluding the islands that are also found south of the 60th parallel and form part of it (South Sandwich Islands, Georgia South, Kerguelen, Heard, Bouvet, McDonald). Its average altitude of 2,000 m / 6,500 ft above sea level make it the highest continent of all, with its highest point being Vinson Massif (4,900 m / 16,076 ft). It is the largest reserve of fresh water on earth and, logically, it includes the South Pole, the planet's most inaccessible (82º58'S 54º40'E) pole. It has a circular shape only broken by the Antarctic Peninsula that extends almost into South America as wanting to reach it.

What else is there
Many countries have bases in Antarctica. These include the Antarctic Base Esperanza (63º23'54 "S, 56º59'46" W Argentina), Villa Las Estrellas (62º12'02 "S, 58º57'50" W Chile) and Scott Base (77º50'56 " S, 166º45'52 "E New Zealand). In any case, remember that just by stepping on this inmense white continent you have conquered this Mostpoint.

Notes
The most common option to reach Antarctica, and therefore also the bases mentioned, is with boats leaving from Ushuaia (Argentina), Punta Arenas (Chile), Hobart (Australia) and Bluff (New Zealand). Naturally visits are limited to the tourist season (October to March).
