Belfast City Marathon

Belfast City Marathon

This marathon was held for the first time in 1982, having become today one of the leaders of Ireland and the United Kingdom. It attracts annually about 20,000 athletes and a crowd of enthusiastic spectators who never fail this  appointment. No matter whether it rains or the wind blows. The Irish are always massively there to encourage the participants.

There are three races available: the marathon relay, the fun run (one short tour specially designed for families and the proper marathon (42.195 km / 26.219 mi) which is the one you must complete within the time limit set by the organization (6 hours ) to conquer this MOSTPOINT.

The starting line is at the Belfast City Hall and the finish in Ormeau Park. The urban part of the tour is easy. The marathon gets a bit more complicated later in the hills surrounding the city, reaching a height of about 700 m.

What else is there
Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. It's also the largest city and the city that spawned the Titanic. So you can not miss a visit to the interpretation center dedicated to the history of the famous ocean liner. The Town Hall, Queen's University, the Albert Memorial Clock and the Grand Opera House are just some of the architectural gems that you will find walking through this easy to walk and friendly metropolis.

To load new energy visit the Victorian St George's Market. To soak up local history you can catch one of the so-called "Black Taxi Tours" for the graffiti walls. The murals combined with the explanations of the drivers can be a very interesting experience. Do not leave without climbing to the Cave Hill Castle, situated at about 395 ft / 120 m height. The views from there are unforgettable.
