Cape Sata - Southernmost point of Japan

Cape Sata - Southernmost point of Japan

The Southernmost point of the 4 main Japanese islands (Okkaidō, Honshū, Kyūshū and Shikoku) and accesible for the public, Cape Sata (佐多岬, Sata Misaki) is the Southernmost tip of land of the Osumi peninsula, part of the Kyushu island. The point of reference is a lighthouse from 1871 that can be seen from the observation point. It is some 80 km away from the nearest city of Kanoya and 9 km from the Southernmost village of Japan, Odomari. Getting there you pass a marker proclaiming you cross the 31º N line.
