Cape Wrangell - World´s westernmost point on land

Although the island Semisopochnoi, also belonging to the United States, is located further east (179º46'E, only 14' west of the 180th meridian), it is part of the eastern hemisphere and its meager 222 km2 are uninhabited. Therefore we establish, as defined by the dateline, as westernmost point of the World, North America and the United States, Cape Wrangell, located on the island Attu. This is the largest of the archipelago of islands Near which in turn are part of the Aleutian Islands, the 1,900-mile arc that is drawn between the Bering Sea and the Pacific Ocean from Alaska (United States) to the Kamchatka Peninsula (Russia). Station Attu was the only inhabited place on the island since the war until its closure in 2010. Notably, the International Date Change Line was moved to the west to allow Attu to follow the US calendar.

What else is there
The wonders of southwestern Alaska are a paradise for nature lovers. Although quite punished by the wind, the Aleutian islands offer coasts carved by the sea, wild beaches and a variety of birds, wildlife and marine life. You can go fishing, hiking, rafting and canoeing facing a great challenge in the Aniakchak River, which has the distinction of National Wild River. The Attu island was occupied by the Japanese in World War II and many remains of the fights there as well as some monuments can still be seen.

Notes
If you go in summer you can often wear short-sleeved shirts and jeans but do not forget to bring at least some long sleeves and a windbreaker or jacket. In winter, warm clothes, hat and thermal gloves. And in both cases insulating comfortable boots.
