Everest Marathon

Everest Marathon

This is the highest marathon in the world and organised since 2003. It starts at Gorak Shep (5184 m) within the Sagarmatha National Park, home of the Sherpas, near the base camp of Everest (south face). It ends in the village Namche Bazaar (3446 m), known as "door of the  Himalaya". Although most of the way is downhill, there are two very tough slopes that make this marathon one of the toughest in the world. The height requires an acclimatisation period of about 3 weeks, during which participants live together training, mountaineering and trekking on a daily schedule, in order to get fully prepared for the start line.
