Ironman World Championship Kailua-Kona
Each Ironman is a MOSTPOINT reserved for a privileged few, since this is the toughest triathlon on the world. 3.86 km / 2.4 mi swimming, 180 km / 112 mi cycling and finally, a full marathon (42.2 km / 26.2 mi). All within a time limit of 17 h.
Ironman owes its origin to the US military John Collins, who in 1978 invented this competition to see which athletes excelled in each mode. In that first edition participated 15 men, of whom only 12 completed it.
The Ironman World Championship Kailua-Kona is the oldest and most prestigious in the world in which 2,000 athletes compete each edition. The starting places are awarded according to the scores and to participate it is necessary that you have been classified in at least one of the other available Ironman
In addition to the Ironman, which is the race that will entitle you to add this luxurious MOSPOINT, there are two other modes: On the one hand the Ironman70.3, also called Half Ironman, which includes 1.9 km / 1.18 mi swim, 90 km / 55.9 mi bike and 21.1 km / 13.1 mi of running. And secondly the 5150Olympic Ironman created in 2011, which covers 51.5 km / 31.7 mi swim, 40 km / 24.9 mi bike and a 10 km / 6.2 mi footrace. This mode qualifies for the world Championship.
All tests are regulated by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), which reserves 200 places in the Ironman World Championship Kailua-Kona to be awarded by a lottery system (150 for American athletes and 50 for athletes from other countries). 3000 people entrust their fate every year to this method of selection.
