It is the highest volcano on the Lombok island and the second highest in Indonesia. It is also a sacred place for the people of Lombok, Sasak and Bali.
Once on the rim you will find a huge crater , From there you go for the toughest part which is going up.
The demanding Mt Rinjani trail that usually starts in Senaru takes normally 3 to 4 days. It rises to the rim of the huge crater of about 6 x 8 km (3.5 x 5 mi) partially flooded by Lake Segara Anak, which is another place of pilgrimage. From there you continue upwards to top Puncak with an underground that forces you to move 2 steps up and 1 down till you get to the highest point of the volcano. After this victory the trek continues down to the crater lake and then to Sembalun Lawang. Although that is the most common one, it is certainly not the only route since there are about 20 villages around Rinjani, offering many different ways.
If you love challenges and you like adventure, be encouraged to conquer this MOSTPOINT. The effort is worthwhile. Amazing views, untouched nature and, at about 2,000 m / 6,500 ft above sea level, the reward of a pleasant bath in the hot springs.
