Mount Vinson - Highest point of Antarctica

Mount Vinson is located in the heart of the Ellsworth Mountains. It was conquered for the first time in 1966/67 and is a real challenge for lovers of extreme mountaineering. The ascent of Vinson is much more accessible since 1985 due to the seasonal base camp Patriot Hills (80º18'S, 81º22'W) and Union Glacier Camp (74º47'S, 82º53'W). So usually you arrive there by plane from Punta Arenas (Chile) and then travel on an airplane equipped with skis to the base of Mount Vinson, located about 2,100 m / 6,990 ft above Branscomb Glacier. The ascent does not involve technical difficulties except some snow slopes of some 40º, but weather conditions make that this project  resembles the last 3,000 m / 9,840 ft of 8,000 m peaks. It is the continent that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, knowingly, described as "a place colder than Siberia, drier than the Gobi desert, with more blizzard than at the summit of Mount Washington and empter than the furthest corner of the desert of Arabia ".
