Mulhacen - Highest mountain of the Iberian Peninsula

3,478.6 m / 11,413 ft make the Mulhacen the highest peak on the Iberian Peninsula and the second highest in Spain after the Teide (3,718 m / 12,198 ft) on the Canary Islands. It forms part of the Penibética mountain range and is located in the Sierra Nevada National Park, Granada.

Conquering its summit attacking the southern face is a task that can be undertaken without difficulty, while the option of the north side gets a bit more complicated. You choose. The first route takes you to the Poqueira Capileira refuge and from there to the summit. A relatively easy route, but take into account that you will be confronting a height difference of approximately 4,000 m / 13,000ft. So if you're not in shape, or in case acclimatization can be a problem for you, plan your climb well.

What else is there
The Sierra Nevada National Park is a spectacle in itself. Beautiful towns and villages dotting the horizon, offering panoramic views to which forests, rivers and valleys are added. Enjoy its fauna and flora, as well as the colors. You will be amazed with the contrast between the eternal snow and the green of its meadows.
After the effort, treat yourself to a dip in the hot springs of Alhama de Granada and regain energy with the exquisite cuisine of Capileira. If you love the sea, go to Motril or Almuñécar.
And of course, take time to explore Granada. A charming city with a rich history as it was an Arabian capital for centuries. From the Alhambra palace and the Generalife Gardens to its lively nightlife, this Andalusian city offers thousand and one plan for everyone.
