Scottish National Trail

Scottish National Trail

This is a route suitable only for real adventurers as it traverses remote places and there are few facilities along its route. In return you get the immeasurable natural beauty of the Highlands of Scotland. So the effort is worth it..

The Scottish National trail starts in Kirk Yetholm and ends at Cape Wrath, crossing Scotland for 864 km / 537 mi.

The difficulty grows from south to north and it joins the Cape Wrath Trail in Glen Garry. From this valley, it passes through Glen Shiel, Strathcarron, the mountains of Torridon, the Maree and Broom lakes, the small village of Ullapool and the bridge over the river Oykel. From there, you discover the wildest part of the trail. You leave the volcanic lakes of Rhiconich and the Kinlochbervie community behind you to reach Sandwood Bay, skirt it and get to the end point located on the top of a steep cliff: The Cape Wrath lighthouse.
