Snowdon - Highest peak in Wales

With 1,085 m/3,560 ft Snowdon, Yr Wyddfa in Welsh, holds the MOSTPOINT to be the roof of Wales and the second highest in the UK, after the Scottish Ben Nevis (1,344 m / 4,409 ft). In fact both, along with England’s Scafell Pike (978 m / 3,209 ft), form the MOSTPOINT known as "The three peaks challenge." Look for it in the category “Ultra races”, start training, have a go and conquer it as well.

Snowdon is located in the Snowdonia National Park. Its pyramidal shape is due to its volcanic origin and the work of the ice which has carved its slopes.

Many mountaineers found in the Snowdon the perfect training site to later undertake the conquest of higher peaks.

There are several routes of ascent. The simplest is the one that follows the mountain railway line that runs from Llanberis to the summit. The hardest is the one that goes along the "Crib Groch" edge.

At the top you will find the "Hafod Eryri" granite building with a cold exterior look, opened in 2009, that will surprise you with the warmth of its inside decor and wide range of services. There is a cafeteria, the station that the train, mentioned before, reaches and an interpretation center.

BADGE Snowdon

You have to reach the top of the Snowdon on foot and upload pictures of yourself while climbing and on top of it. Getting to the top by train is not valid as a MOSTPOINT.

What else is there
The Snowdonia National Park is a stunning nature reserve. A must see for nature lovers. One hundred natural lakes including the largest in Wales, the Llyn Tegid, rugged peaks that compete in beauty with Snowdon, pristine waterfalls, wetlands and lush green valleys enrich a landscape that captivates not only climbers but also walkers, cyclists and fans of water sports such as sailing, windsurfing and rafting.
Furthermore, a gripping story intertwined with the legends of King Arthur, will transport you back in time and let you glimpse the thousand shades of people proud of their origins.
Among the many interesting things offered by the region, you should at least visit the medieval town of Conwy, the strength of king Edward I in Harlech and Caernafon Castle.

Many mountaineers agree that the best time of year to conquer this MOSTPOINT is from June to September. If you go in July, do not miss the Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau, a local festival that will surprise you with its Celtic magic.
