No wonder that the challenges of "The 10,000 Soplao" are known as "the Cantabrian  hell", being Cantabria a region in Northern Spain. There are different challenges framed in different categories, this one being the hardest.

The Soplaoman includes 10 km / 6 mi of swimming with tours that may be held at the beaches of Oyambre and Meron or in the estuary of San Vicente. This is followed by over 110 km on two wheels in a highly demanding BTT challenge with some 3,000 m / 9,800 ft in both ascent and descent. To finish, there is an ultramarathon of 74.52 km at an altitude ranging from 125 m / 410 ft to 1,017 m / 3,307 ft. All within 24 hours. An amazing effort which is well worth another Badge on your profile.

The starting point is located in Cantabria at the village of San Vicente de la Barquera and finishes in Cabezon de la Sal. It races between the beauty of the Saja-Besaya Natural Park with its lush forests, fertile valleys and rich fauna and flora.

There are checkpoints along the entire route in which you must comply with the schedules required by the Organization. Also, pay attention to the official rules for failures as littering the environment which can not only disqualify you but also inhibit your participation in future editions.

What else is there
Certainly the Saja-Besaya National Park is well worth a leisurely visit. You may see, among many other animals, deer, wild boars, wolves and even a bear although the latter two are very difficult to spot. Treat yourself to a walk on its paths and do not miss the historic and artistic Bárcena Mayor, where you will discover in detail the traditional mountain architecture.
Do not miss in San Vicente de la Barquera, a charming fishing village, its magnificent beaches and the ancestral wealth of the old town. There you will find the church of Santa Maria de los Angeles, San Vicente Castle, magnificent bridges and plenty of other extraordinary places.
In Cabezon de la Sal you can continue to enrich yourself with historical-cultural samples of the region. For example with the Palace of the Monasteries, the Bodega, the prehistoric site of Cabrojo and the Museum of Nature in Cantabria, installed in the former Casa-Palacio de Carrejo.
And replenish energy with the rich local cuisine. Try their cheese with denomination of origin, the famous Santoña anchovies, lebaniego stew, sorropotún and the extraordinary cake like pasiegos sobaos. You will understand why Cantabrian cuisine has many followers, both in Spain and internationally.

To participate in the Soplaoman you must be 18 years old the day before the celebration of the event. See the rest of requirements on their official website.
