Teide - Highest point of Spain

The Mount Teide summit is the highest point in Spain including islands, and ranks, with its 3,718 meters high, third in volcanic structures in the world, after "Mauna Kea" (4,205 m) and "Mauna Loa" (4,169 m) in Hawaii.

Its origins date back more than 170,000 years. The original inhabitants of these lands, the "Guanches" called him "Echeyde" (Hell), joining with their way of thinking many other cultures that gave birth to the myth of mundi Axis, which deposits the powers to unite heaven and hell  in an object of nature.

Nestled in the National Park that bears its name and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007, the Teide has become the most famous icon of the Canary Islands.

From the top, if the fog permits, you can clearly make out four of the islands that form the archipelago: Gran Canaria, El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, as well as the beauty of the  Tenerife island itself.

What else is there
The Teide National Park is not only the most visited by the Spanish but also a favorite of visitors from around the world. Its area exceeds 3,500 ha and forms part of the municipalities of Icod, Guia de Isora, La Orotava, Vilaflor and Santiago del Teide.
The geological spectacle offered is fantastic. You can see many capricious formations and a range of contrasting colours ranging from an unrivaled volcanic black to the white snow covering its peak in the winter months, combined with a wide range of ocher and green. A network of roads cross the area, taking visitors to a number of viewpoints from which they can enjoy amazing views. Stop at the Visitor Center El Portillo. You will be surprised with its lush Botanical Garden. Take a hike along any of the existing hiking routes. They are of different distances, from short such as "Los Roques de García" or "Black Sands" to other major tours such as "Seven Canadas" or "La Fortaleza".
Outside the park, Tenerife continues to offer loads of possibilities to enjoy nature and leisure, as well as many historical sites and cultural attractions.
To refuel between walk and walk, treat yourself to some local delicacies such as "Papas arrugadas con Mojo" (Wrinkled potatoes with the typical Canarian sauce), the "Sancocho" (A traditional soup) or fresh Atlantic fish that the people from the Canarian islands know to prepare exquisitely.

To get to this MOSTPOINT you need a special permit. It is free and you can apply for it online. On the right side of this page you have the link to do so. Within the Park, the weather can be extreme.
